Roughly, you will take:
1 - 2 years for all science prerequisite and general education. Some university will require you to retake everything.
Another 2-3 years for nursing program (depends on your degree). You can take intensive Bachelor of nursing which is one year, full time program. It's very expensive and very intense. (you still need all prerequisite done before enter program)
You can't enter Master degree in nursing if you don't have BS in nursing. But some school offer 'Master entry program' for peopele who have bachelor degree and want to have MSN. You will spend one full year taking all nursing undergraduate class, then you can enter graduate program in nursing. The program is dificult to get in and very intense and very expensive. You spend about 3 to 3.5 year, but you go to school all year round.
Another thing, you might not get in right away becasue nursing is in a very high demand right now but not many school can take lots of student due to lack of instructors. You mihg be on wating list for the next year. Also, make sure that you have enough money to cover you throughout nursing school because it's impossible you to work during nursing program. Waitressing during school is not a good option because you will be so exausted to study and besides you won't have time to study.
You will go to class and clinical all day Monday to Friday (some school thursday)..but one your day off, you will have tons of study and paper due. My school, have test almost every week. Most nursing program I know, if you fail one class, you are out from program...no dropping and no retaking the class.
I tell you this because many thought that nursing school is easy and they can work like other student in the other program. My class start with 50 but only 36 graduated...a few change their minds during class but most of those fail the classes.
Good luck!!!
