I asked my buddies, male co-workers, whom I known for years for comments on these statements: “You made me a better person, You have added so much to my life, You make me smile, Thanks for being my friend.” Their first reaction was bursting with laughter; they thought a field engineer hit on me.  Then a warning ensued: to stay clear from this man.  They think he is, pardon my language, a BSer (bull sh !).   From his explanation above, he seems earnest.  I begin to like him simply because he listens to NPR.  I’m just kidding.   I wonder what kind of questions you asked him.  My main point is whether his wife is aware of the on-going conversation affair.  Does he share this with his wife?  More importantly, honestly answer the following questions to yourself: 1. What are you trying to achieve from chatting with this man?  What do you expect to gain from this relationship? 2. Having been aware of his marital status, and with his ammunitions of sweet talks, will you still be able to refrain yourself from falling for him?   3. What are your strategies to prevent yourself from being in love with him (rather his alluring languages) later? 4. What if his wife finds out and questions your involvement with her husband?  How will you react to this? If you think he has no hidden agenda; and you can be firm (not moved by his words, I honesly doubt), by all means, continue your business.  If you are in doubts, be very cautious.  That’s all I can advise. One may say I’m cynical.  I fully admit.  I have good reasons to be.  I witnessed at least three divorces of three handsome couples.  All cases were caused by the husbands went on chatting with some naive Asian chicks*.  It started of as genuine friendly chats, but they somehow developed and evolved beyond casual friendships.     Some co-workers chat with Thai girls, as always they shower those girls with seductive words with the intention of gaining something for free when they visit the girls in Thailand.  These men do not keep the affairs to themselves, instead they share with others.   Two Thai girls I know, went on chatting with some farang men.  Each later received messages from their wives questioning why they were trying to involve with married men.   P.S. ความคิดเห็นที่ 38 AM I WRONG??? I commented earlier that it was common to say such a thing. However, it seems like most of the people here disagrees. I'm wondering if I totally misunderstand the meaning of that sentence; you make me a better person. Let's say. If we take out the entire context from จขกท's situation, and focus on the sentence per se, is it a bad sentence to say to others? From my understanding of the sentence, I think it's a good thing. I mean human being likes talking and hearing about others’ wrong doing. We love gossip basically. Don't get me wrong. I'm not better, but I also think that we should say about good things of others as well. People seem to talk about others when they do or say something bad, but keep quiet and let the good things go by without acknowledge ‘em. I think it’s kind of taking others for granted. If we like to say about bad side of others, we also should complement them for their good side. I've been reading Kaibann for almost a year. When I read some good comments, I would go to those commentators' blog if they have one. So far, I have emailed two people to complement their stories. As the matter of fact, I said 'you make me a better person' to the first person I mailed. It was how I felt after read his stories. I like his thoughts and his perspective on life. I don’t know these people in person and might not have a chance to know them in my life time. At least, I got a chance to read some good storied they are sharing. I just think I should let them know my thought on their stories too. I don’t know what they would feel about my email, but, at least, I feel good letting them know so. I just mailed the second person last week. His stories weren’t that good, but for some reason I was laughing while I was reading them. At least, they made me feel good for that day and I didn’t let the chance to go by to complement on his humor. Well . Hopefully, someone gives me some thought and educates me on this matter. My Dear Child Noon, You need to re-read and re-think my message.  You jump into a defensive mode so soon without a thorough thinking. When I read your writings, I figured how young and vulnerable you are.  I have three nieces, who are about your age; and one, who passed this age. And mind you that I once was there.  I therefore can claim my understanding though not much about girls’ psychology at this stage.  In addition, I grew up with seven brothers; and have worked for 18 years mostly with men.  Hence, I think I know a thing or two about their mentality. The reason behind the above-listed questions is to give yourself a chance to think and reflect of possible outcomes that you did not anticipate; and necessary precautions you should take. I know you are in earnest of wanting to practice your English.  I realize you have no other agenda.  Do others think the same?  Are they as sincere as you are?  You never know.  Your innocent and earnest can be used, without your awareness, by some predators in any possible ways to harm you. It may start as an innocent intention i.e. to practice English, but it can develop into undesirable outcomes.  The examples I gave attest to that. I wish I could tell you the world was as pink as you (my nieces included) see it, but I can not and will not because it is not the truth.  Unfortunately, the world in reality is different: there are good/kind people; and also malicious ones.  And that you have to be mindful and careful.  You must intelligently select allies from foes.
