I always ask for the first row of each section and the one next to the window. For example, the seats are like this 1. ABC DEFG HIJ 2. ABC DEFG HIJ 3. ABC DEFG HIJ 4. ABC DEFG HIJ 5. ABC DEFG HIJ 6. ABC DEFG HIJ In this case, I always ask for either A1, J1, A4 or J4 (first row of the section and window seat). The reason is that you have plenty of leg space and also can go out to toilet easily. People may not like this seat because it is normally next to toilet. But for me I like it. I tend to drink a lot of water and try to go to toilet as often as I can (so that the blood circulate well in my legs). Also the good thing of sitting next to toilet is that you can always tell when it is free ; ) It is best to bring your own bottled water as it is convenient. If you can, try to wear sock flights too so the blood will circulate well. Sitting next to window is good for sleeping too as you can lean your head against it (but not goodif you don't get first row seat because you can't get out). The problem is just that these first row seats are limited so if you have a choice to check in on line in advance, do it and try to get the first row. I dont' think they will be available if you check in at the airport (the staffs always claim they can't tell which seat is front row!). If you can't get these first row seat, just get aisle seat like suggested above. I don't think the immigration is that tough. Remember that you have nothing to hide. You have got a valid student visa with university offer so you are legally there for a reason. Just answer whatever they ask you.
