ohhh...yawwww...why be so negative to people with accents?!?... ;) southern accents are not so baddddd...yaw knooowww. they sound laid back, down to earth and genuine. in thailand i can imagine people from, for example, kanjanaburi, suphanburi, or the eastern part of thailand...ya knooowww...besides bangkaaawkkk... i love them... :) (my bad imitation of southern accent. ;)
but many people who speak with a lazy southern drawl can get on my nerve sometimes though...hahahaa :) if you want to irritate someone badly, a lazy drawl will certainly achieve you that goal. if you want to scare someone, besides the black accent, a new york accent will do, i believe. i don't know, when i listen to new yorkers speak, i always picture the godfather movies and bodies... ;)
anyhow, methinks one can achieve an american english accent easier than a british english accent because one doesn't need to adjust one's pitch as much, doesn't need to turn up one's nose as much (really, to me the british sounds more complicated and more sophisticated), and thai language is rather more monotonous.
