What I was trying to compare is between IE and EM na krub. I did not talk about EM vs MBA at all.
My point was that in some school (especially good school), EM is comparable to IE krub. MIT does not offer IE, but they called it OR. Stanford does not offer a degree in IE, but they called it Management Science and Engineering. In fact, the MS&E department at Stanford was the result of the merger between the IE, OR and Engr Economic System.
I would agree in general that IE is superior to EM for most university. But I do still think that at top university (MIT, Stanford, and Princeton) which do not offer IE program, still offer other similar program that is comparable to IE program at Georgia Tech. We all know that IE at GT is excellent, but to say that they are better than OR at MIT, MS&E at Stanford or ORFE at Princeton is not right.
About admission, sometime you cant base it on your personal experience. I knew two people who applied to do PhD. One got accepted into the OR program at MIT, but got denied admission for IE program at Northwestern!! Another friend of mine got accepted for PhD in IE at Georgia Tech, but got rejected from MS&E at Stanford.
But I do agree that for master program, you should definitely choose MBA over EM krub. For PhD
its better to study what you really love, and not worry about degree name too much.
Thats my two cents na krub.
