I got canadian multiple entries visa (work visa) and US visa (b1/b2) and its true that u can travel between Canada and USA and it doesnt count as leaving the country. i travelled cross the border many times both by land and air.
In this context i think it means that u can use Canadian SINGLE entry visa as MULTIPLE entries visa if u travel between Canada and USA, but still, u need US visa to enter USA.
In the same time, if u have US single entry visa and want to travel to Canada, u can do that but u also need Canadian visa to enter Canada. When u travel to the US with ur Thai passport, u need to fill in an immigration form (i think its called i-94, if i'm correct) and the immigration officer will tell u how long you can stay in the US.
For example, if u are given a 6 -month stay, and u stay in the US for two weeks and wanna come to Canada for two weeks and go back to the US again for another two months, U DOn't need to return I-94. U only return i-94 when u leave the US permamently on that trip and do not wish to come back to the US again within the period of 6 months (the period that u are allowed to stay).
If you leave USA from Canada (u may want to travel in Canada after your USA trip and do not wish to go back to the US again), please make sure that Canadian immigration officer or airline remove ur I-94 from your passport.
When u leave US to Canada, u won't be checked by US immigration. But you will just go to Canadian immigration. (they are super nice people :) )
Hope this helps.
