Exactly. What kind of family do you think they are if having 200 pounds to spend over TWO months will make a big difference? The only people I see are those who live off benefits. Mothers who work would already be paid anyway when on maternity leave so the money is not much needed (but who would say no to a free cash, I wouldn't, would you?).
As I said and I stand firm to my belief, if 200 pounds (always remember that this sum is only for last two months of pregnancy) will make difference to your family and your life then you should never have children. You may say accident happen but that's why protections are there (don't tell me it is expensive as you can get condoms or contraceptive pills for free in this "nanny state").
To me this scheme is nothing more than a bribe in case of a possible general election that may happen before April 2009. If the Nu Labour really care about healthy diet for pregnant women (as this is what the scheme is about; to encourage pregnant ladies to have healthy diets), handing out food vouchers would have been more than enough. However, free cash sounds much more appealing than free vouchers, innit?
