I really dont know, because my prof modify my proposal and do it all. Once they get the fund, they are PI (maybe a principal investigator) and so paid the most. As a student you get Tuition, fee, and some stipend, or still the TA. If you can and you know how to submit the proposal yourself and you are the PI, then you might get a lot.
There should be a list of topics with amount of money for that. You write the proposal for that money. If they like your idea, you will need to go and talk to the committee in details. Then you may finally get it. The proposal should not state too much for other people to copy it at latter time. Hide something, so other cannot do it e.g. software you use or some technique only you know. And do not forget your stipend, trip, conference perhaps in BKK.
