Departing Australia and completing your Tax Return
If you are leaving Australia permanently, an early assessment can be lodged. This needs to be completed in addition to the tax return. The early assessment form can be found at www.ato.gov.au enter 3407 in the search field, the form is called 'Taxpayer leaving Australia - request for early assessment (Nat 3407)'. Please call 13 28 61 to obtain a copy of the tax return form, one will be mailed out to you. You can also call this number to make an appointment to lodge your claim over the counter. The tax return can also be completed online at the ATO website. You cannot have your tax return paid into an overseas account, however you can nominate for a cheque to be sent to an overseas address. You will need to contact your employer to obtain a copy of your Payment Summary.
