Khun Vision, Interesting analogy you had there - "if you kick a dog,...". This discussion should be fun.
For the sake of it, I'd go along with your hypothetical scenario. Not that I wanted to compare human beings to dogs. Although it's totally fine with me but some people might find it offensive. If so, apologies.
If I had to pick one out of the "choices" you gave me ("will the dog stand there or ...?"), I'd say no matter which one I chose, it wouldn't be important or relevant. It's like I'm going to Kanchanaburi and you're going to Korat ;). Your opinions and mine, in the end, are just too different.
Using the same scenario, what I'd like to ask is, why would I kick that dog in the first place?
Is it because I think I'm bigger and stronger and the dog has no way to hurt me? (God forbid, but if he dared to bite me, I'd simply shoot him!)
Maybe the dog had stolen and eaten my filet mignon and that would make it okay for me to punish him like so?
Or maybe I just felt like kicking the heck out of something and the poor dog just happened to be near my (itchy) foot?
Or I'd do that just because I could?
According to your theory, why would it not be okay when, after all, I had a choice to kick him (check) and he had a choice to run away, fight back or let me kick him(check, check, and check)?
So, if you saw me kicking that dog, I'd guess you'd do nothing because that dog "had" a choice and he should always be able to take care of himself? If you can do it, why can't others do the same? Right?
I do respect your (and everyone else's) comments. And yes, I agree that many people are lucky enough to have choices. Although sometimes they all are undesirable ones. I've seen a lot of Thais who do give their all and work very, very hard every single day just to find themselves with enough food and nothing more. To you, I guess it's their choice and we should leave it at that. For me, I want to live in a world where the Have's have sympathy and compassion for the Have-not's, where values, morals, ethics and principles are still as important as laws, rules and regulations, not every man for himself.
I'm not being sarcastic when I'm saying this with my utmost sincerity, thank you for sharing your opinions.
Peace.
