If you have an opportunity to choose (which hardly occur) the type of assistantship RA vs. TA, which one would you prefer? Why?
Actually, I just wonder whether I am on the right track.
I've been RA for my advisor for a period of time already. As the time goes by, it's getting closer and closer toward my graduation (though it's not that close),
which implies that "I NEED TO BE READY AND COMPETITIVE IN THE JOB MARKET".
Since I've been RA for all my Ph.D. period, my weakest point is I have no teaching experience.
It really bugged me since my first priority is to apply for a faculty position though I also target the industries as well.
Comparing to my TA friends, I have more number of publications, yet they have the teaching experience.
So, I wonder, if one targets for the faculty position, do you think being TA or RA yield higher benefit?
In case you are RA, how can you overcome your weakness of lacking the teaching experience?
