Sorry I have to type in English, I don't have a thai keyboard.
I still feel like hitting my head against the wall every time I look at the stocks watch-list in my Scottrade account. I almost bought GLD (gold etf) a few years ago but didn't. I could have made quite bit of money, oh well, it wasn't meant to be. I've been investing in oil&energy stocks for the past few years since I read the book, the oil factor. There's probably some truth in the peak-oil theory. But with the oil at this price, above 140US$ today and could reach 200 US$ as forecasted by the end of this year, I call it a bubble. I may be wrong ( I was dead wrong when I decided not to buy gold a few years back.) but I can't help feeling that things are starting turn the corner. On a big scale, China and other countries have started to ease on their oil subsidies, thus reduce oil consumption in the long run. On the small scale, I live an hour from LA and used to drive to LA every weekend. I have stopped doing that and only go once in three weeks. One reason is to save money but the real reason is that I don't want to feed into the bubble and the oil speculation even though I'm still investing in oil stocks. It's a great feeling to invest in something that keep on growing in vaule, but once it turns into a bubble and causes misery every where, especially to the less fotunated people, I think it's time to quit. A few weeks ago I overheard two old ladies (in their late 60s or even 70s) at Target talking about what it was like in the 70s comparing to what's happening right now, one of them said she just bought some exxon stocks, "if you can't beat them, join them," that's what she said. And I thought to myself, this could be a selling signal for me. I should get out of my energy stocks by this summer.
As for the US economy, I don't know, I think things are bad all around, not just in the US. Higher cost of living and the fact that wages are not keeping up with inflation seem to be a global problem. By the way, somehow I just don't see 1US$=50 baht. 40 baht maybe, but 50 baht, I just don't think it's gonna happen.
