Think twice before applying for MS.Finance or MS.Financial Engineering na krub!!!! It is not that easy.
It has nothing to do with MBA at all cuz it is pure Science and highly quantitative Finance, focusing on financial models (not a basic financial projection models for Equity valuation). It does require solid fundamentals in partial differential equation, matrix and tensor.
You will be furnihed with 1. Stats 2. Interest Rate Models 3. Interest Rate Derivatives models 4. Credit derivatives and pricing 5. Risk models 6. Option pricing and Binomial models.
You need to be computer literacy (Advanced EXCEL+VBA, C) and you will be deriving for solutions in a form of equation NOT numeric.
Most courses are offered at MBA school not Engineering schools. Believed it or not, at Top 10 MBA schools, advance courses in "Investment", "Derivatives (Option/Futures)" are taught in Mathematics approaches.
With this degree, you hope to start your career in 1. Interest Rate Trader (Bond, Swap) 2. Option trader 3. Interest Rate Structurer 4. Credit derivatives trader 4. Market risk manager
Most of them were in the market before pursuing career in MFE krub. If you really are upto this, I think having exposure with Foreign banks (Treasury department) will definitely helps krub.
Columbia also offers this degree in cooperation with Berkeley. Pls check out below links:
