While I was studying in the US, I was asked for many many times about my "future" salary....
Everyone jawdropped when they knew that I was going to earn around 400 USD/month with lots of responsibility and commitment to my jobs.
Well, all of them are renowned scientists in my field... Because of their natural curiosity, they asked why I should go back....
I've never changed my answers....
There are two "contracts"--- signed and not signed.
For the signed one, I have never paid too much attention about it... Because another one that I never signed is far more important. This is about pride, dignity, promise, personal belief and my personal backgrounds. These signifiy myself and destine my life.
I felt tempted (a bit) and honored (greatly) when a pharmaceutical company asked me to apply for a job in its firm right before I finished my PhD. At least, I did know that there was someone recognizing my 6-year efforts as a graduate student into monetary terms.
Well, I had never completed that job application though (more than 120K/year). That's a lot of money, admittedly.... :)
However, I am addicted to "ข้าวกระเพราไข่ดาว" and still willing to do this job as a university instructor in a remote area of Thailand as I always wanted to.
I would not be against you if you want to repay for all of the expenses. You may not have any uncontractual obligations like I do....
Good luck with your life krub.
Best wishes, A.T.
