May I share my life style as a nurse?
In BKK at the biggest and busiest hospital, I had worked 12 hours a day 6 or 7 days a week for 18 years to get $900 a month before working here. Buying a car or a house were unreachable and unaffordable. Eventually, two years ago, I could not do that anymore, I wanted to have a life that was the reason why I came here.
Over here, I have done the same kind of job but I work only 3 day a week as a full time RN to get full benefits.
I get $6000 a month after Tax I pay $550 for a luxury car. I pay $1300 for a small but fancy apartment in a good area. I send $ 2500 back to Thailand for saving and for my mom. For me this is more than enough.
In order to spoil myself and I think I deserve it. I spend my 4 days off eating out, hanging out and traveling. I could not be happier. This things never happened to me when I worked in BKK.
If you are commoner or don't have a rich family. Working as a nurse over here has been a wise choice.
I have a question, Have you seen other jobs that foreigner with low English proficiency can apply for a job and be accepted. I don't think so and it is a pipe dream.
Usually, as long as you have nursing license you are qualified and they let you work, If you want to work in a special unit you have to have other licenses which will take you one or few days to get that. The first three months or probationary period is the hardest part.
There is no room to make a mistake in professional career. In reality, we are human so " to err is human" The trick is we are not able to please everybody even we have done our best. As long as you follow instructions or policy, stick to the rule, don't break the law and do you job. Having a good intention, being professional and believe in Karma. I can say that you are more than OK.
For now, we are blaming the crisis economy and many employees can not keep their job so they have to cut corners but sooner or later, getting sick or going to see a doctor is something unavoidable. If you don't want to go but you are too sick and you are found too sick, you will be brought to a nearest hospital anyway. so this is not optional it is basic need that the government have to provide either legal or illegal resident for.
A few month ago I took nurses to get a job at the hospital that they need more nurses. This is a win win situation, nurses get a job, the hospital have staff to work for and I get referral bonus which is $10000 for a nurse and 7000 for me who brought a nurse in. Amount of money may vary depend on a unit or shift that they need. Do you believe that why many hospital willing to pay a big money for this. The answer is there are a huge room for the nursing job to be filled up and I strongly believed that it has never been filled up.
At a work place you work shoulder to shoulder with doctors, pharmacists and other multidisciplinary. You are recognized as the team member and the one who knows patients the best. For families, you are the one who takes a good care of their love one.
All in all, those things above keep me going, make me love my job more. Not only do I earn my living but I gain self-esteem as well .
