I agree with the current policy, preparing scholarship awardees in prep schools for a year prior to college.
Most of these awardees are cream of the crop from our country. Although most of them are endowned with academic excellence, but it doesn't mean that all of them are academically ready for studying in American colleges.
There are many other aspects for foreign students such as spoken & written language, social & cultural issues, adaptation and so on. These can greatly affect (in a negative manner) to their academic performance. Thus, I believe that, preparing them in these schools would allow them to show their full potential in classes.
I would disagree with the thread owner about changing in their personalities because of attending these prep schools. I just do not believe that way, to be honest wit you.
If their backgrounds tend to change, they will change. It has nothing to do with the prep schools. If they are truly decent people, they will be in such way for the remaining of their natural lives. On the contrary, the SOBs would behave differently no matters where he/she/they go.
