Mostly agree with Khun Dorotee Krub.
I have experience in helping my supervisor selecting 3 Posdocs for our lab in 3 occassions. So this is my opinion krub.
For you, with publication profile like this is generally considered a good one. But, in fact, when we advertise the position in publics, there are normally 150 applications coming in. That means we have to pick only one out of 150!!!
Even your publication profile is good, but many other also have more or less the same profile as you and some even better. Especially when you look at the fact that opportunity in getting research work published is varied from field to field. For example, those who works on molecular cell biology (gene function, protein trafic, protein interaction, protein kinetics) will find it is alot easier to produce more than one papers than those who works on protein structure determination. Therefore number is not always a big deal.
How about impact factor? If you really want to take someone into your lab for at least 1-3 year, you need to know that his/her ability in getting a paper published in Nature or Science is not solely from luck. Field experts can simply see it by reading the paper. So, getting published in big journals is not very important but what contains in the paper is the real deal that determines your fate. When we look at applicants' papers we just want to know what techniques that they use to accomplish their work and into what extent that it displays their expertise in utilising those techniques. For example, if we want a person who should be really good at eukaryotic cell expression system, even if you have 2 papers in Nature in which E Coli system based works are found, in this case, we might not need you.
Once we found the right person who can offer what we need, the next thing, which is equally important, is we are going to look at your reference. If you have been working with a supervisor whose reputation is well recognised in his field, you are likely to get a job by having him as your referee! YES connection is important in scientific world.
To summarise; 1) You need to have what they want! This is the decisive factor!! 2) prove that you have got what they want. If possible, be able to demonstrate that you are not just the one who can just use that particular technique but an expert who can master it. Good papers will help alot as they provide good evidence suporting your claim. 3. Good references! Find one or two field experts to confirm that you could be the one who is indispensible.
If you can satisfy all those three requirement. I think you are more than 70% to get a position.
Hint; I find it very very very easy to get a job from my collaborators. If you have been making alot of collaborations with other groups and made alot of successful results with them in the last 3-4 years of your PhD, working with them as a postdoc is alway possible.
