UK postgraduate study 2010/2011 (เอามาฝากครับ มีประโยชน์ ๆๆ) vote

* ไปอ่านเจอมาใน Thaijustice เลยเอามาฝากครับ สำหรับคนที่จะไปเรียนต่อปริญญาโทที่ UK ปีนี้ครับ

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the message to those who will be traveling to the UK to begin their postgraduate programme in the coming semester. English pre-sessional course students that need to start their British academic lives earlier should pay more attention to this message than students who have been unconditionally admitted to the UK university. This is going to be the second time that I present this message on this web board because it is really important for relevant students.

Government funding students
It has now been the time to have health and mental inspections in the specified hospitals as government funding students will be required to make an appointment before they are allowed to be checked by the specified doctors, according to the Civil Service Commission regulation. From April, it will be very difficult to make an appointment with the specified hospitals because of too high demand from oversea traveling students.

Government and self-funding students
First of all, all students will be required to have a certificate of IOM test that will be issued on the same day that they have finished a test. However, students need to make an appointment with IOM centre in advance. In extraordinary cases, some students may be required to have an additional test which the centre will be able to issue the certificate when the period of 28 days has passed.

Next, government officers will need 10-15 days for the process of official passport and letter of visa permit issuances by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, before they can apply for the UK visa. Fortunately, self-funding students can take only one day to request for their passports from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Furthermore, students must also make an appointment with the UK Border Agency in Thailand in advance through its online system. The visa application must be submitted online only. Applicants must show up to the UK Border Agency officers at the reserved time and date to finalise their visa applications. It seems that the UK visa applications in 2009 were delayed due to many reasons, particularly as a result of the applicability of the new UK immigration rules. Many students were able to collect their visa on the day that they were departing. In other words, most UK visas 2009 were granted to students around the world merely a couple of hours before their time of departing. That is why all students should apply for the UK visa at least two months before traveling to the UK to ensure that they will be able to attend the first lecture of their courses.

Last but not least, students should recognise the best time for them to trade in the currency exchange. At the beginning of March 2010, sterling price had dropped to the bottom over the past decade of approximately ฿50 per £1. Pound tends to be stronger and may reach the peak of approximately ฿60 per £1 in July which is the time for most English pre-sessional course students to depart from Thailand. All students should make a cost estimate in British currency for the first half or the whole year depending on their financial status. Government funding students will receive the tuition fee for their English courses and first two-month allowances in Thai currency from their supporters. Thus, they will also have a currency risk if baht price continues to fall gradually.

All students should make sure that they will receive their airline tickets on time. In the past year, most students traveled from Bangkok to London by direct flights serviced by Thai Airways and British Airways.
