Students with Children Children under 18 years old
Children under the age of 18 years can accompany or join the parent who is studying in the UK. In some cases, the parent may have to prove that he/she has the sole responsibility for the upbringing of the children. Education for your children
Children are required by law to attend school, which is compulsory and free for all children up to the age of 16. With some exceptions, schools are under the control of the Local Education Authority (LEA) which, in the case of Cardiff, is Cardiff County Council. It is nearly impossible to arrange schooling for your children until you get to Cardiff, the reason being that the schools you can choose from will depend on where you live, and you are unlikely to know where this will be until you get here. Most schools start their academic year in the first week of September so it is advisable to try and arrive in Cardiff in August to enable you to find a home and organise schooling for your children before their term starts.
