นับแต่นี้ไปอเมริกันชนและผู้ที่อาศัยอยู่อย่างถาวรในเมกา ต้องมีบัตรประจำตัวประชาชนแล้ว ซึ่งผู้ที่จะได้รับใบ REAL ID CARD ซึ่งจะใช้คู่กันกับ Driver License ต้องทำการยิื่นขอโดยมีหลักฐานและรายละเอียดการใช้ดังนี้
After 2011, "a Federal agency may not accept, for any offical purpose, a driver's license or identification card issued by a state to any person unless the state is meeting the requirements" specified in the REAL ID Act. States remain free to also issue non-complying licenses and ID's, so long as these have a unique design and a clear statement that they cannot be accepted for any Federal identification purpose. The Federal Transportaton Security Administration is responsible for security check-in at air ports, so bearers of non-compliant documents would no longer be able to travel on common carrier aircraft without additional screening unless they had an alternative govrnment issued photo ID.
People born on or after December 1,1964 will have to obtain a REAL ID by December 1,2014.
Those born before December 1,1964 will have until December 1,2017 to obtain their REAL ID.
Documentation required before issuing a license or ID card.
Before a card can be issued, the applicant must provide the following documentation:
* A photo ID, or a non-photo ID thast includes full legal name
and birthdate.
* Documentation of birth date.
* Documentation of legal status and Social Security number.
* Documentation showing name and principal residence
address.
นับจากนี้ไปผู้ที่อยู่อย่างผิดกฏหมาย คงจะลำบากมากๆ เพราะจะกระดิกตัวทำอะไรก็ไม่ได้ เช่นใบขับขี่ การเดินทางโดยอากาศยาน การเข้าไปในที่ทำการของรัฐบาล เหล่านี้ต้องสามารถแสดงบัตรประจำตัวที่เป็น REAL ID Act เท่านั้น นอกจากนี้กฏหมายนี้ยังมีผลต่อการกำหนดจำนวนวีซ่าทำงาน ชั่วคราว เช่น J-1, H1-B และจำนวนโควต้าของผู้ขอลี้ภัย รวมทั้งแก้กฏหมายเข้มข้นขึ้นต่อผู้ถูกเนรเทศ และผู้ที่โดนข้อหาผู้ก่อการร้าย เป็นต้น
