Thanks k. PatPDX, soul16, pice, ก๋าสะลองเงิน & อิสวาสุ ka.
K. pice, my heart goes out to you. As much as I appreciate and am grateful for what I have, sometimes I think I still take things for granted and forget to open my eyes and look around and see that a lot of people are in much worse "situations" than mine.
I don't know how you've got yourself into the $7K loan and don't know how education system in Thailand is like but am sure it has changed a lot since I left Bangkok. I've heard that there are more scholarships and student loans available. It seems to me that there are tons of schools, colleges and universities in Thailand nowadays. Not that it bothers me; I'm all for education. But I'm suspicious of the quality of education my people are getting. And I'm not sure that higher education is for everybody. Some people might excel better in a trade school than they would in a university. But many of us, myself included, have this notion that at least we should get a Bachelor's degree. We believe it so strongly as if getting that piece of paper is going to guarantee our success when in fact it requires much more than that in real life. Thus, in part I think, we have tons of grads who can't find work or don't know what to do after school or change their career entirely.
Frankly, I'm not sure if the student loan program works or if it "should" exist at all, judging from what I see in the U.S. Don't get me wrong, I love America and it's been my second home for the past...few () years. However, I cannot say that I agree with all programs/policies they (on both federal and state levels) have done. And the student loan system is one of them. I did not know what was going on at first until after the Obama administration (rather quietly, compared to the HCR) did the reform. And I almost could not believe how such a broken system had existed for so long. The way it was conceived and operated was just ridiculous.
I'm rooting for you and my fellow Thais who are honest, hard-working, responsible people. Money-wise, maybe our status and/or success is not that high and we are still struggling. But we keep fighting and do our best, always. We don't want other people to feel sorry for us. We can and will take care of ourselves, "gold-digging" in the States, Saudi, Dubai, or somewhere else. America does not hold all the answers and I doubt there's a country that does. Nothing's perfect. There are things that we can control and things that are out of our control. Just prepare yourself and be ready to strike when opportunities come your way. You hang in there and I'm sure one day your effort will pay off.
