Barclays, you ruin my student life, make me loss money, cause many troubles to my London life
This is the first complain email in 25 years of my life because normally I am an understanding person who realize that problems can be happened BUT my issue with Barclays is not acceptable. I decided to open international student account with Barclays through Kasikorn Bank in Thailand because you went to advertise your service on British Council Pre-Sessional briefing day that it will help student settle down in UK easier by avoiding the problem which may cause by travel with large amounts of money and student will be free from the hassle of opening a bank account with complicated documentation and long queues in UK banks. This is the sequence of trouble that Barclays ruin my life: 5 July 2011 I applied the Barclays international student account via online application, and went to submit all required documents at Kasikorn Bank Bangapi branch, Bangkok Thailand. The officer at Kasikkorn Bank said the maximum day to process opening the account is 5 working days, and promised me that my account would be ready by my arrival date at London on 26 July 2011 18 July 2011 There was no feedback from Barclays, so Kasikorn Bank called to check with Barclays and found that ALL OF IN-CHARGE STAFFS ARE ON HOLIDAYS and were unable to open my account by the time I will arrive London. 25 July 2011 2 minutes before the airplane took off, I got welcome email from Barclays and informed me to call to xxxxx once I arrive London to inform my UK address and process sending cheque book, visa debit card and International Telephone and Online Banking Membership card. 26 July 2011 I called to xxxxx as soon as the airplane touch the ground but the lady in the line said she had problem with my security questions so she inform me to go to some Local Barclays branch. So I went to Barclays Victoria branch and write the letter to inform my UK address. The officer said they will pass to Knightsbridge branch and I had to wait around 3 working days then my Bank documents will be sent out 1 August 2011 Nothing happen again. So I went to Barclays Wealth Knightbridge branch by myself, the officer gave the consumer information form to let me fill my current UK address. He said that after I finished, he will send to Barclays Isle of Man to change my address and I will receive all Bank document within 7-10 days as you state in welcome letter 16 August 2011 Almost one month after arriving London, I need to withdraw 2,000 GBP to pay the deposit of my flat. I brought the passport and welcome letter to Barclays Queensway branch. The officer said I can withdraw only 1,000 GBP without bank book. I had to insist that THIS IS NOT MY FAULSE to not having bank book. I let him check the current address in my database. He found that MY ADDRESS DETAILS HAVE NOT BEEN CHANGED YET. So he informed me that I need to go to knightbridge branch AGAIN. 17 August 2011 I had to skip my class at university to knightbridge branch. I talked with Mr.Kishan Karia (This is only impressive memory towards Barclay. Mr.Kishan has very good service-mind). He call Barclays Isle and found that YOU ALREADY RECEIVED MY REQUEST TO CHANGE THE CURRENT ADDRESS SINCE THE 1ST WEEK OF AUGUST. BUT YOU FORGOT TO CHANGE INTO YOUR DATABASE. The person in the telephone line said my address will be changed within 24 hours. I have to call xxxxx on 18 August to order the delivery of my bank documents. 18 August 2011 I called to xxxxx after 24 hours past, a gentleman said my current address hasnt changed yet. AND I NEED TO WAIT FOR ANOTHER 24 HOURS. Then, I have to ring him again on 19 August to order the delivery of my bank documents AGAIN. Then all of my bank documents will be sent to me BY 23 AUGUST 2011. However, in the evening, Miss xxx from xxxx, international student account officer, called me and said that the address has been change, BUT she has to send my document to card department to check something again, AND I HAVE TO WAIT FOR 3 WEEKS TO RECEIVE BANK DOCUMENT !!!! How come from 7-10 days which you indicate in Welcome letter and your advertisement to 21 days? This is not included the + useless 3 weeks that I have been waiting for my documents since the first day I contacted you when I arrive London. So, IN TOTAL, I HAVE TO WAIT FOR 42 DAYS TO RECEIVE MY DOCUMENTS ? THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AT ALL This problem ruin my life severely. 1. I dont have book bank and debit card to apply mobile monthly service contract. I have to pay much much more higher rate for Pay as you go 2 . I dont have debit card and Online Banking Membership card to order my textbook from amazon website. This book hasnt been sold in any UK bookstore. I need to order online only and I cant do it without debit card number 3. I need to waste a lot of time to go and go and go, phone and phone and phone, wait and wait and wait for the useless contacts with Barclays 4. I need to pay the accommodation rental fee online and I cannot do without debit card number 5. I almost cant reserve my flat because you not allow client without book bank to withdraw over than 1,000 GBP. Miss xxx told me to keep going to Barclays bank everyday to withdraw 1,000 GBP per day until I get enough money. Do you think it is stupid and waste my time ? Dont you think I need to skip class everyday to go to withdraw money because your bank closes at the same time I finish my class ? 6. In the short period, I have to pay my tuition fee by online process. I still cant figure out how I can pay my tuition fee. If I really cant, I wont be able to enroll my master degree and will lose my student status because of BARCLAYSn Again, I decided to choose international student account service with Barclays because I believe you will make my life in London easier, but how come you make may problems and Ridiculously, my friends who bring money from Thailand to go open with Lloyd after they arrived has already got the bank account and bank documents before me who open with Barclays since I was still in Thailand. Next time, please dont promise the facts you cannot do, please dont advertise the service you cannot offer. I am only small client who may not make the effect to Barclays business at all, but please know that Barclays has already generated negative feeling and disappointed me very much. As well as my 3,070 friends in facebook, and many readers in public webboard both in Thailand and United Kingdoms website that I will share my situation and experience with Barclays soon.
