Quote คำสัมภาษณ์ Nico Bucholz, Lufthansa Group Fleet Management กับ Lufthansa Magazine :
"Nico Buchholz: Lufthansa worked very closely with Boeing on the original 747, and has been involved in the development of subsequent freight and passenger models, too. The cockpit of todays 747-400, for instance, was greatly influenced by Reinhardt Abraham, who was CEO of Lufthansa Technik at the time it was developed. And Lufthansa has been urging Boeing to make further improvements to the 747 for years: Stretch it, optimize its efficiency these were just two of the things we were asking for. In 2002, we held the first of many presentations at Boeing in which we described our specific requirements. In the ensuing years, I traveled to Seattle quite frequently to discuss what was doable with the program managers and technicians there.
The breakthrough came
when we found the right engine. You see, modifiying the 747 without having a newly developed propulsion technology to go with it would not have given us the innovative edge we were looking for. Once we had found a suitable engine, we quickly met with Boeing and told them that this was the aircraft we would like them to build."
according to Richard Aboulafia, vice president of the Teal Group, a Fairfax, Virginia forecaster. Airbus has sold 253 A380s. Boeing has orders for 111 747-8s, of which only 41 are for commercial passenger operations.
The market for large aircraft in general is disappearing fast, Aboulafia said. Most of the 747-8 planes are cargo. There's just a limited market.
