Same applies to everywhere in the world, not just in U.S., where capitalism takes roots. Resources are scarce but population are growing at exploding rate everyday. Living one's life this year seems harder than doing so just 5 years ago. You are forced to be competitive to survive.
Thailand is a great place to live for Thais. Affordable living expenses, great and affordable foods, comfort of your family and loved ones. Yeah.....sort of. But again there is a PRICE TO PAY like bribery, pork-barrel politics, unsafe environment, etc.
People seek security and think they're able to find it in the first world like U.S., Canada, Australia, Europe, Japan. ....... Not anymore. Again, there is always another kind of PRICE TO PAY. And it's getting more costly everyday.
As the Buddha's saying goes, as long as we're human being, there will always be suffering.
