it depends on the degree of the serverity of racial abuse. if just verbal (i.e. you chink, go back to your country), just disregard it. although certainly disheartening, if you don't react and just stay clear of them (i.e. go to busy areas) surely nothing bad will happen. personally, i have come accross some verbal abuse, but only a few times, and considering that i've been here (london) for thee full years, i think it's a rare occurence. however, racists are characteristically the less educated so you should steer clear of the poorer areas of your town. to be honest, i haven't come accross much serious cases of racism in the news and i don't think it's that common.
as with the case of hongkies, from personal experience, hongkies tend to look very กวนตีน since most HK are posers. ahha joking
anyway, i think the real problem is not blatant racism but rather concealed discrimination. although they might not speak it out loud, sometimes you can feel that you are being treated differently because you are not caucasian! but i guess this is unavoidable .. for everyone is a racist to some extent.
good luck, don't worry, just know กาละเทศะ and be smart. don't change ur mind about pursuing your education just because of this!!!
