I am one of those who got the scholarship from the government to study abroad and would like to share my thoughts on this issue.
It has been six years now since I flew an international flight for the first time. A bit nervous then...
Certainly, from the day I left my homeland till today on the different land rather freezing and piled with snow at this time of the year, my perspective has shifted greatly.
Before I came here, I honestly did not give much consideration on the obligation that comes with the scholarship. I just thought that it was a good opportunity to study abroad for a person from a middle-income family like me.
As time passes by, education and maturity allow me more thoughts and reflections on the question of whether I did make a right decision or not.
My final answer was a firm Yes. When I look at the country where I am studying, what comes to my mind is, like others, why is it so advanced and our country is not. But my take on the question is how we could make Thailand better and not, oh, wouldn't it be nice if I could just settle in this country where income and standard of living is much higher.
If our standard of living in our country is so low, why not make some contribution and highten it? If our governmental system is so screwed, why not try to get into the system and try to change it? This might sound too idealistic to you (and probably even to myself thirty years from now), but I believe that if the new generation muster their strength together, things can be changed. Therefore, for me, the commitment to the country prevails.
So, in the end I agree with Mr. Visut. And that's all I have to say about that.
