Dear All ...kharb
I am indeed appreciate at least I have had some responses..kharb.
I am going to start answering the questions now. Originally, I had graduated from Chiang Mai University, holding B.Sc in Biochemistry and Biological Technology. I did not get the good grade because I loved to do extra-curriculum activities. However, I tried to maintain the grade points above 2.5 in every academic term. Normally life when I studied B.Sc was not good as you had expected, since I had lot of friends who wanted only get a good grade. They were totally selfish as they always kept every thing with them (Text book, paper, sheet) and did not contribute any helps to those who were weaker about studying. Actually, I have to thank to them; Because they looked me down (one even said that I am stupid), this was an inspiration for me to be something that they never thought about before. So after I finished B.Sc as well as I could not apply any scholarships to study MS internationally, I decided to study international master program in Environmental Science, Chiang Mai University. At this master program, we had to use English all time because of the existence of international students. This created a huge impact for me. Typically, I loved to study international program because it had some extra-benefits; for example.. you could have an opportunity to invite the international professor to be your thesis committee, and you were warrantee about your English Fluency..somethings like that...... So I got professor from US to be my supervisor (I had sent her and e-mail and talked to her quite often about my work and finally she invited me to go to her lab as to complete my thesis work. I took this chance therefore, I went to US and finished my work there)
All right!!! The reason why I have told you all my full story because (1) I would like you to take a look and you might get some ideas which can adapt them to you, since you all and I are totally somehow different thus it would not be possible for you all to be as exactly as my life. But I am sure that you might get somethings. (2) sometime I think that just answering the question is not enough to provide usefulll data, sometime people need an addtional information or detail explanation. (3) With highly hope that my life might inspire at least one person to fight for his/her unexpected life.
Anyway, let 's focus about the scholarship; scholarship from สำนักงาน ก.พ. (www.ocsc.go.th) is the best, however, you have to get the good grade and having good academic background...you know what!!!! I personally don't like the way of ก.พ. considering the grant, they always think about grade and acedemic background...I think that those who have not too good grade may sometime have more capacity than those who have very good grade.
Apart from ก.พ., if you want to study at US, Full-Bright might be another grant you should think about. If you want to study in Hawaii, scholarship provided by East West Center (http://www.eastwestcenter.org) is might be your destination. There are lots of website which you can seek for the grant's information such as http://www.vcharkarn.com, or website of every university in Thailand.
Another choice for those who would like to gain work experiences or develop the expertise, Fellowship grant may be the good alternative. However, US fellowship grant requires the direct contact to the grant source; for instance fellowship provided by university, government agency, ministry.... In this case, you need someone to help you. Someone who should have at least power to contact the organization for you as well as he/she must hold the position in that organization.
Again, as I have mentioned earlier, it is almost impossible to ask for the scholarship at the time you apply the US university. You will be considered to get the grant after you show them the first academic study result. Even though if you would like to just ask for the financial aids, you have to show them study results. Anyway, for both scholarship and financial aids, you have to compete against other students too. However you can guess, most of Thai students can get the grant because of demonstrating a good study&responsibility. I am sure that if you all have a chance to study in US, you will study hard right?....then you deserve to get the grant!!!!
Finally, I have a tip for you all who would like to apply directly to US university. (1) You have to put your head and soul to practise English. Not only English written skill, you have to be good at speaking too.... because what? I am going to tell you why..... because it is a good idea to contact the professor at that university, send them e-mail telling who you are, what is your interesting subject, how you admire him/her work and finally tell him/her your idea about thesis. After you send them e-mail, sometime you cannot get any response at all!!! Then you have to call them and try to activate your former e-mail. (Don't be shy, at least they don't see your face and you will talk with someone who you don't know either). (2) If you can make professor happy about you, then he/she may help you about application process or even tell you about scholarship....but you have apply a little trick, you have to tell them that you are from Thailand, an developing country, which the currency is enormously different from US. Since you want to learn the degree and bring it back to develop our country so you need to apply for the available grants. If professor likes you then he/she may give you information. Please do not ask him/her directly as "Do you have grant?" especially at the first e-mail. Anyway, my (2) suggestion depends case by case. However, the (1) tip is very important.
Lastly, for all of my dear in this forum, if you want to practise you English written, please feel free to send me your written passage since I can help to check or commend in some topic that I am good at. Even though, you may think that my writting is not good, but if you have question in person; please don't hesitate to ask me...I can ask my american friend to answer your questions.
I have to go now.. Don't hesitate to send me an e-mail at dzn6@cdc.gov I would be really appreciate as to welcome those who are nice talking persons.
Hope you all have good luck.
