I have very similar experience kha but I got through it now. When I graduated from a uni, my father wanted me to work for public services. I didn't argued, just listened and then I went to the private. After he had seen how my life turned out, he was happy with my decision. Later on, I went oversea for further study, got married and live here ever since. My mother was just like yours. Again I listened and not argued. After I completed my another degree and got a job, I organised a visit for them to see for themselves how I live my life. Since then, my mother was happy with how things turned out even encourages another sister who currenly lives in another country, to move to where I am. It's a very stressful peroid for you but you need to be petient and wait for your chance to show them how better off you can be. Another thing, please get proper wedding as it will help gain more credit for you and your husband from your mother and it'll also keep her face with relatives and others. You have my full support, good luck.
