I'm confused between cathedral & bacilica; and church & chapel. Having seen your inquiry, I took the opportunity to clarify (also for myself):
Cathedrale = Cathedral = bishops church: a church that contains a bishops throne and is the most important church in the bishops diocese; a large, important church
Basilique = Bacilica = privileged Roman Catholic church: a Roman Catholic church or cathedral given ceremonial privileges by the Pope; large Christian church: a Christian church building formed out of a Roman basilica or built to a similar design
abbaye = abbey = monastery or convent: a building or buildings occupied by monks under an abbot or nuns under an abbess, especially the church building; church: a church that is or was used by a community of monks or nuns
eglise = church = religious building: a building for public worship, especially in the Christian religion
chapel = CHRISTIANITY room for worship: a place in a hospital, prison, or other institution, or in a large house, consecrated for Christian worship; RELIGION separate area of church: a separate area in a church, having its own altar and intended for private prayer
