In my case, it has to go back in time almost 20 years ago; and when Thai Baht was pegged to USD at 25B/1USD. Lets see
..
I earned 2 degrees. Each degree required 36 credit hours at $ 180/credit. I went to a state university (could not afford a private one). I worked on campus; thus, I was able to cut down tuition fees by a big chunk. To be on a conservative side, lets assume 30% reduction. The amount will then be: Total tuition fees = (36x2x0.7x180x25) = 226,800 Bahts.
When I first arrived, I walked with me $ 6,000 to cover for settling costs and for emergency. It took me over 3 years of working to save this amount. The total will then be: Total Cost = 226,800 + (6,000 x 25) = 376,8000 Bahts.
This was almost 20 years ago. You have to find out the net present value for todays worth yourself.
Living expenses are not included because I did not get supports from home (my mother could not support). I worked while I was in school. I earned roughly $ 600- 650/mth from working 2-3 jobs: on campus 20 hours/week, in a small office for a Jewish business man (1day/week) and typing reports/term-papers for students (while was on duty in the computer lab and mostly to rich kids). Sometimes, I tutored rich foreign students; and did book keeping for an interior designer for extra incomes. Summer breaks, I worked full time at any office I could get my internship to gain experience as well as to earn extra incomes.
To study abroad is indeed costly. Nonetheless, what Ive gained (the experience in school and real life; the transformation it has on me; and the opportunities to meet interesting people from all over the world), it is priceless.
