Khun Krisdauw krub,
I would like to ask you about the perceptions/attitudes toward doing post-doc in your field (English/Humanities) in the US. My question is based on what I have heard in my field (business administration).
In general, in the field of business in the US, the postdoc position is usually for the Ph.D. graduate who hasn't yet been able to find a job as an asst.prof. So the postdoc position is like a temporary position for that Ph.D.graduate to have an institutional affiliation while he/she is still searching for job. As a results, the postdoc is often nagatively viewed by a number of people.
The case in point is, an asst. prof. from a Thai uni (who got Ph.D. from the US), thinks about doing postdoc in the US. However, one of his co-authors who teaches in a US business school asks him that " why do you want to do postdo?. IT DOESN'T COUNT TOWARD YOUR RESUME."
I wonder if a similar situation also exists in other academic disciplines.
Thank you krub.
