How can apply the Self---Sufficiency Economy Philosophy in Hamburger Crisis



American financial crisis call Hamburger crisis in U.S.A. has economic effect to around the world also include Thailand. However, every Thai people can apply the self sufficiency economy philosophy that stresses the middle path as and overriding principle for appropriate conduct by the populate at all levels. This applies to conduct starting from the level of the families, communities, and national. Can we find something in mainstream economics that captures the spirit of the self sufficiency economy philosophy?


The first is sufficiency economy application at families' level. We have to moderate and enough in the sense of not to little, and not too much in living, that is, we have to be self---reliance and frugality. Furthermore, we have to improve in the overall quality of life. It means that family members need not to do odd jobs just to have something to live on as what they produce can adequately sustain them. There will be happiness in the family as all their basic needs will be catered for and this will result in stability of the family, no quarrels and fights. By the way, we have to focus on present and future actions by concentrate and be conscious in working, and are ready for action results, no matter what's going to happen.


The second is sufficiency economy application at communities' level. We have to have learning, knowledge management, and local wisdom application process because an application of knowledge with due consideration and prudence is essential; for example, we can develop any business innovation when we learn actually. In addition, we should improve health environment through health awareness and clean campaigns the environment. Rehabilitation of forests and recycling into useful energy sources is done as one of the community activities; for instance, using simple technology to make charcoal from rice husks. Moreover, we have to regenerate the moral fiber. The community members come together in a cooperative will not only handle issues relevant to that only but they also can help each other on social issues thus helping in the raising good morals. It will be brought together to lean life skills, and social responsibilities.


The third is sufficiency economy application at nation's level. We have to be good communication people. Good contacts, partnerships and linkages will be established with institutions and stakeholders such as banks, businesses, governmental and non-governmental agencies thus obtaining overall financial knowledge and technical support necessary for further development. Besides, we have to adhere to sufficiency economy at even in politics because politicians will create a balanced progress for people to live sufficiently, be able to support themselves, and live harmoniously united. They also make policies and laws based on sufficiency economy. Leaders can encourage the development and adoption of new practices, knowledge, or technologies for enhancing common benefits.


In conclusion, Sufficiency Economy is a philosophy serves as guide for the way of living, behaving for people of all levels toward the middle path. His Majesty used the phrase "middle path" or "middle way" to describe the pattern of life every Thai should lead --- a life dictated by moderation, reasonableness, and self --- immunity at families' level, communities' level, and nation's level.
