ความคิดเห็นที่ 1 ข้อที่สอง Discuss the subjects in which you had difficulty. What factors do you believe contributed to your difficulties? How have you dealt with them so they will not cause problems for you again? In what areas have you experienced the greatest improvement? What problem areas remain? The subjects that I had difficulty are reading and writing. First and foremost, English isn’t my first language. It took me a while for me to get used to a new language.  I still remember my very first day in the U.S.A. I entered the middle school without knowing my own fate. Will people be nice to me? If my past English lessons from Thailand are out of sync, what am I going to do? Will I understand what they say? The first day had passed and left me with many questions in my mind. I didn’t understand a thing on that day, except when my math teacher said, “It’s lunch time”. Despite the confusion and the language barrier, I promised to myself that one day I will overcome these frustrations. Luckily, all of my classmates welcomed me as a part of their family. Our differences were no longer an obstacle. They truly supported me and their enthusiasm motivated me to learn in the class. It took me about two or three months to adapt to the new environment. I think the only way to improve on any languages is to use them in the daily life. For example, if I want to improve on my reading, the only way is to read as much as possible. Or the only to improve on writing is to write as much as possible. Therefore, in my spare time, I read newspaper and write a personal journal. Reading newspaper helps me read my textbooks faster and more efficient. Writing a personal journal helps me improve on my essays. I have experienced the greatest improvement in reading and writing. In writing, I earned a 6, the highest possible score, on Florida's Comprehensive Assessment Test back in my sophomore year. In reading, I earned a 4, the second highest possible score, on Florida’s Comprehensive back in my eighth grade. However, I’m still learning and the beauty of learning is it never stops. No matter how long I live in this country, I still have something to learn. I learn new vocabulary every day. I learn how to use proper grammar in my writing and how to use more sophisticate words without being awkward. ข้อที่สาม Briefly describe a situation in which you felt that you or others were treated unfairly or were not given an opportunity you felt you deserved. Why do you think this happened? How did you respond? Did the situation improve as a result of your response? My life in America isn’t a road full of roses. Before coming to this country, I didn’t expect America to be perfect. I know that my language barrier might cause some problems and there might be some people that didn’t understand the way I am. Of course, not all people will be like that but I didn’t want to be optimistic and pretended that everything will be fine. One year passed by and American people proved me wrong. I can stand up and say that no one ever treated me unfairly. In fact, all of my classmates and teachers treated me like I’m a part of their family. I was glad that they looked pass all of my flaws and appreciated my true colors. Then I had to move from a private middle school in Boston to a public middle high school in Florida. Once again I was very nervous about this transformation. I was nervous that my world was about to become larger. Not only that I was struggling to find my true identity in such a big environment, but I was also bumped that kids in a public high school didn’t welcome me as warm as those in my old middle school. I still remember back when I was in eighth grade and I had to sign up for classes I was going to take in high school. All of my middle school teachers signed me up for a program called GAP which consists of advanced classes. Although I had doubts in my ability to take these challenging classes, my teachers assured me that I’ll be just fine. But things always are uncertain. Two months later, I was informed by my high school that I wasn’t in GAP and instead had to take honor classes. They reasoned me that high school teachers weren’t sure that a foreign kid like me would be able to handle these advanced classes. I understood their decision to take me off the schedule but deep down inside I was asking why? Why can’t they just let me decide what I can or can’t handle? Then I thought to myself ,“Actions always speak louder than words.”  I worked hard and became a straight A’s student in my freshmen year. I was able to show them that I deserved a chance as much as everybody else. Finally my hard work paid off. In my sophomore year, I was inducted into Bayside Engineering Technology Academy, which is an upgrade version of GAP. ความคิดเห็นที่ 2 ข้อที่สี่ Discuss your short and long-term goals. Are some of them related? Which are priorities? My short term goals are to go to Georgia Institution Technology and study in Computational Media.  The first time I read about this major through Georgia Tech website, I instantly fell in love with it. Computational Media is a cutting edge major that allows its students to use both of their creative and logical sides. In other word, this major is just so me. Computational Media also has a great variety of careers opened up for its students. I can go out and get a job just like what Computer Science graduates get. I can also become a special effect maker, like those who create the disasters in 2012, or a web designer. My long term goal is to become a web designer. Even though this career might not be the brightest career of 2010, it still doesn’t matter to me because passion is always more important than what seems right. I trust my own instinct and decide to go for it. My short and long term goals are related because Georgia Tech would be a great place to start to become a web designer. I’m more than certain that Georgia Tech will give me all of the right ingredients. The priorities are to go to Georgia Tech and study in Computational Media because in order to be successful, I have to have a strong foundation. ข้อที่ห้า Describe a leadership experience you have had in any area of your life: school, work, athletics, family, church, community, etc. How and why did you become a leader in this area? How did this experience incluence your goals? I was a captain of Bayside Tennis Team last year. Looking back in my freshmen year, I was just a number five player on the team (the ranking system goes from the best player is number one on the team and so on.) In my very first match in high school, according to my coach, I was quite a mess. I still remember all the nerves running through my body seriously freaked me out and eventually caused me a match. My coach told me I needed to work on my consistency and control. Normally, these two qualities can only be achieved through practices and right determination. Therefore, I worked hard and sacrificed all of my time after school for tennis. It took me about one year to get to the top. Being a captain teaches me to control and behave myself because a captain is a role model who sets up good examples for his or her teammates. I am more determined to win, partly because my victory would enhance my teammates’ spirits.  This experience also influences me to be willing to go extra miles to get what I want. As my coach would say “giving up isn’t an option.” ข้อที่หก Discuss your involvement in and contrucutions to a community near your home, school or elsewhere. Please select an experience different from the one you discussed in the previous question, even if this experience also involved leadership. What did you accomplish? How did this experience influence your goals? Currently I am a member of Earth Club. Bayside High School started this project to raise awareness that people rapidly harm the Earth in so many ways than we can imagine. For example, some might think that taking three of four paper towels to wipe off their hands after using the restroom is very mundane but, in fact, this action has a long-term effect of speeding up the global warming’s rate.  In Earth Club, we are building a greenhouse. Inside the greenhouse, we are growing a great variety of vegetables and fruits, which can be consumed later on. Not only that we encourage our classmates to save their money from their pockets, but we also promote the healthier lives and safer environment. We are still in the middle of working on building the greenhouse. However, so far, this experience teaches me how to work with other people. Yes, we don’t always agree on everything but what is really important is how to reach a compromise. I learn to listen to other people’s reasons and keep my cool when certain things don’t go my way. I’m glad that I’m learning it now because, in the future, I don’t want to be like that typical obnoxious guy who everyone hates at work. ข้อที่เจ็ด Other than through classes in school, in what areas (non-academic or academic) have you acquired knowledge or skills? How? Tennis has been my passion since I was ten years ole. I didn’t have an opportunity to play right away so I spent time watching Andre Agassi than actually playing. It’s funny that knew right away that tennis was going to be my favorite sport the minute I first saw it on TV. Three years later, I touched a tennis racket for the first time. Since then my life has been a lot more fun and interesting. Discovering tennis makes me realize that it is more than just waking up in the morning to go to school and coming back home to complete assignments. I first started playing in Thailand and then had to quit when I moved to the U.S.A because, at that moment, I wanted to put my entire focus into adjusting my life in the new environment. However, as soon as I felt that it was the right time to make a comeback, I didn’t hesitate a bit. I scarified all of my time after school for tennis. I practiced to get better. I listened to my coach to get some useful tips. I watched better players to motivate me that someday I’ll be like them.
