้help ตามด้วยกริยานั้น มีใช้ใน 2 ลักษณะ คือ
1. ลักษณะปกติ มีความหมายว่า ช่วยทำอะไรสักอย่าง I helped her find the book. อันนี้ help ตามด้วยกริยาช่อง 1 หรือ infinitive without to
2. ในความหมายว่า To refrain from; avoid or resist. Used with can or cannot: I couldn't help laughing. I can't help loving you.
เหมือนกับเวลาเราใช้ refrain from, avoid, or resist กริยาที่ตามหลังก็ + ing ทั้งนั้น เมื่อใช้ help ในความหมายนี้ก็ต้องใช้กริยา + ing เหมือนกัน
