"The cloth" = (the profession of) the clergy, clergymen = หมอสอนศาสนา
Ex: The vicar has been involved in a scandal; he is a disgrace to the cloth.
"cut one's coat according to one's cloth" = adapt one's desires to one's resources;
not spend more money than one earns. (ความพอเพียง, นกน้อยสร้างรังแต่พอตัว, ไม่ใช้จ่ายเกินตัว - รู้จักเจียมเนื้อเจียมตัว - ทำตามกำลัง)
Ex: My salary is not very large at the moment, so we must cut our coat according to our cloth.
