ความคิดเห็นที่ 1 ไม่จริงครับ ผมดู TOEFL iBT Total and Section Score Means — All Examinees Classified by Geographic Region and Native Country จากเว็บ http://www.ets.org/toefl/research/test_score_data_summary/ ของ ปี 2008 นะครับ ปี 2009 ผมเปิดไม่ได้ Thailand มีคะแนนเฉลี่ยอยู่ที่ 72 จาก 120 Viet Nam มีคะแนนเฉลี่ยอยู่ที่ 70 จาก 120 Afghanistan มีคะแนนเฉลี่ยอยู่ที่ 69 จาก 120 Myanmar มีคะแนนเฉลี่ยอยู่ที่ 68 จาก 120 Tajikistan มีคะแนนเฉลี่ยอยู่ที่ 67 จาก 120 Japan มีคะแนนเฉลี่ยอยู่ที่ 66 จาก 120 Macau มีคะแนนเฉลี่ยอยู่ที่ 66 จาก 120 Cambodia มีคะแนนเฉลี่ยอยู่ที่ 65 จาก 120 Lao มีคะแนนเฉลี่ยอยู่ที่ 59 จาก 120 ถึง จะเปิดปี 2009 ไม่ได้ แต่ผมมั่นใจว่า คะแนนเฉลี่ย TOEFL ของคนไทยทั้งประเทศ ไม่ต่ำสุดใน Asia แน่นอนครับ จากคุณ : Rifle D. เขียนเมื่อ : 5 มิ.ย. 53 18:50:30

ความคิดเห็นที่ 2 Lies, damn lies and statistics. You may wonder why Laos, Cambodia and Burma are better placed than Thailand even though they are supposedly less developed? Statistics does not tell the whole story. Thailand is richer than those countries. Those who take Toefl test are not confined to only scholarship holders but ordinary students whose parents are rich but whose English suck as well. These students can afford to take the test when they still suck because they have money. They normally would not wait until their English are good before paying for the test. Cambodia, Laos and Burma students who take the tests are mostly scholarship holders, which means they are cream of the countries indeed and thus their English should not be poor. You then wonder why Japan is better than Thailand? Japan is quite nationlistic and they have excellent universities both government and privately run. So they need not go to study overseas. Those who do are scholarship students and some students with rich parents. However, students with rich parents who want to study overseas normally will go to cram schools since young. ความคิดเห็นที่ 5 สถิติคะแนน toefl ไม่น่าจะนำมาใช้วัดประสิทธิภาพในการเรียนการสอนภาษาอังกฤษของแต่ละประเทศในแถบเอเซียได้ เพราะมันมีตัวแปรคือ "สถิติว่าคนที่เข้าสอบคือใครบ้าง (อย่างที่คุณ K.Senior พูดไว้)"   แต่จากการที่ตัวเราเองและเพื่อนร่วมงานหลายคนเคยพบปะผู้คนเ้ป็นจำนวนมากจากประเทศเพื่อนบ้านที่ต้องใช้ภาษาอังกฤษในการประกอบอาชีพ สิ่งที่น่าทึ่งก็คือ คนจากประเทศเพื่อนบ้านเราหลายๆคนเก่งภาษาอังกฤษมากๆตั้งแต่เรียนจบปริญญาตรีมาอายุน้อยๆโดยไม่เคยไปอยู่ในประเทศที่พูดภาษาอังกฤษ ในขณะที่คนไทยถ้าไม่เคยไปเรียนภาษาอังกฤษต่างแดนกว่าจะเก่งขนาดนั้นได้ก็ต้องจบปริญญาตรีมาแล้วไปหาประสบการณ์จากการทำงานจนอายุตั้งเยอะกว่าจะเก่งเท่าคนในประเทศเพื่อนบ้านเรา เหตุผล เราคิดว่า อาจเป็นเพราะครูสอนภาษาอังกฤษในระดับประถม และมัธยมของประเทศเหล่านี้เก่งกว่าครูสอนภาษาอังกฤษในระดับประถมและมัธยมในระบบการศึุกษาของไทย ที่เป็นเช่นนี้ก็เพราะว่าระบบของไทย จะ go by the book นั่นก็คือยึดตามกฎระเบียบ เช่นคนที่จะสอนภาษาอังกฤษได้ก็ต้องเรียนครูมา แต่คนไทยที่เก่งอังกฤษมากๆไม่ยอมเรียนครู หรือเรียนครูมาแต่พอจบแล้วก็ไปทำงานอื่นที่ไม่ใช่สอนภาษาอังกฤษในระดับประถมหรือมัธยม ในขณะที่กฎหมายใหม่ของไทยที่ตั้งข้อจำกัดว่าฝรั่งเจ้าของภาษาจะสอนภาษาอังกฤษในเมืองไทยได้ต้องจบปริญญาตรีอย่างต่ำ มันทำให้อาจารย์ฝรั่งเก่งๆระดับอัฉริยะแบบพวก born teachers แต่ไม่มีปริญญาตรีต้องเนรเทศตัวเองออกไปสอนภาษาอังกฤษในประเทศอื่นๆกันหมด และฝรั่งเจ้าของภาษาอังกฤษที่เรียนจบปริญญาตรีมาก็ไม่ค่อยอยากจะมาสอนเมืองไทย เพราะค่าตอบแทนต่ำกว่า ถ้าเทียบกับการไปสอนที่ญี่ปุ่น ใต้หวัน หรือเกาหลี ด้วยนโยบายด้านการศึกษาของไทยที่ 1. จ่ายเงินเดือนครูต่ำ คนไทยที่เก่งๆภาษาอังกฤษก็เลยไม่มาเป็นครูประถม หรือมัธยม 2. ฝรั่งเจ้าของภาษาต้องมีปริญญาตรีอย่างต่ำ ฝรั่งที่สอนเก่งๆมากๆแต่ไม่จบปริญญาตรีก็เลยหนีออกนอกประเทศไทยหมด และฝรั่งที่มีปริญญาตรีก็ไปสอนประเทศอื่นที่ให้ค่าตอบแทนสูงกว่า ลงเอย ประเทศไทยก็เลยขาดครูสอนภาษาอังกฤษที่เก่งๆซึ่งจะเข้ามาสู่ระบบการศึกษาไทยในระดับประถม และมัธยม นั่นเอง แก้ไขเมื่อ 06 มิ.ย. 53 13:05:34 จากคุณ : fortuneteller เขียนเมื่อ : 6 มิ.ย. 53 13:01:12

ความคิดเห็นที่ 6 จริงๆแล้วถ้าผู้บริหารระบบการศึกษาไทยไม่ go by the book คือเลิกยึุดกฎเกณฑ์ที่ตายตัว และคิดแบบยืดหยุ่นกว่าเดิมหน่อยๆ นั่นก็คือ จัดทำโครงการเชิญคนไทยที่เคยพำนักอาศัยอยู่ในประเทศอังกฤษหรืออเมริกา (หรือประเทศอื่นๆที่ใช้ภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาที่ 1) นานเกินกว่า 15 ปี แต่ไม่มีปริญญาเลยสักใบ ให้กลับมาเข้ารับการอบรม แค่ 6 เดือนเพื่อออกไปเป็นครูสอนภาษาอังกฤษในระดับประถมและมัธยม มันจะช่วยผลิตครูสอนภาษาอังกฤษเก่งๆในระับบการศึกษาได้มากกว่าการผลิตบัณฑิตด้านการสอนภาษาอังกฤษที่มาจากคนเรียนไม่เก่ง (เอ็นเข้ามหาลัยเรียนเอกอื่นไม่ติด) แล้วจำใจต้องมาเรียนครู เพราะในรอบ 2-3 ปีัที่ผ่านมา เคยเจอคนเรียนเพื่อไปเป็นครูสอนภาษาอังกฤษอยู่ปี 3-4 แล้ว เข้ามาถามเรื่องภาษาอังกฤษ ขนาดประโยคภาษาอังกฤษง่ายๆก็ยังเขียนไม่ถูกเลย พอจบปริญญาตรีไป แล้วไปสอนภาษาอังกฤษ กว่าจะพัฒนาได้จนใช้ภาษาอังกฤษผิดน้อยลงมากๆหรือไม่ผิดเลย บางทีคนที่อ่อนมากๆพวกนี้ต้องใช้เวลานานเกิน 20 ปี ดังนั้นการเอาคนไทยจากต่างแดนมาเป็นครูอาจผลิตครูสอนภาษาอังกฤษเก่งๆออกมาได้รวดเร็วกว่า  เพราะ เรารู้จักคนไทยหลายคนที่อยู่ต่างแดนนานๆที่เก่งภาษาอังกฤษมากๆ ซึ่งคิดถึงบ้านอยากกลับบ้านมากๆ แต่ก็ตัดสินใจไม่ยอมกลับเมืองไทยตลอดชีวิต เพราะรู้ว่า การไม่มีปริญญาตรีเป็นอย่างน้อยที่สุด มันจะทำให้ัพวกเขาตกงานและลำบากมากๆในเมืองไทยได้ แก้ไขเมื่อ 06 มิ.ย. 53 13:17:05 จากคุณ : fortuneteller เขียนเมื่อ : 6 มิ.ย. 53 13:13:03

ความคิดเห็นที่ 7 นี่คือภาษาอังกฤษที่เด็กผู้หญิงเวียดนามอายุ 20 ปี เขียน (เธอใช้ชื่อว่า MsStripedCat) เธอเล่าว่าเธอเรียนภาษาอังกฤษมาได้แค่ 6 ปีเอง...แต่ถ้าเทียบกับคนไทยที่เรียนปริญญาตรีหรือแม้กระทั่งปริญญาโทด้านภาษาอังกฤษหรือด้านการสอนภาษาอังกฤษในมหาลัยระดับรองๆ (เพราะเอ็นไม่ติดมหาลัยรัฐดังๆ) ในประเทศไทย แล้ว รู้สึกว่าเด็กเวียดนามคนนี้เหนือชั้นเหลือเกิน เขียนเก่งจนฝรั่งเจ้าของภาษาแตกตื่นกันทั้งเวป...!!! Thank you both for the support   I've learned English for nearly 6 years. The first 3 years were spent at a high school specializing in English. And now, I'm in my 3rd year at University of Foreign Languages and International Studies. I gotta say that the university environment still plays the most important role in improving my advanced level. Beside the 4 skills- Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing which are divided into 4 separate classes, we also have to learn advanced English Phonetics, Semantics and Grammar ( Phonetics and Semantics are very practical and useful, but Grammar still remains a nightmare to me  ) Other subjects that we have to study in English are General Geography ( of all English speaking countries), British Studies, American Studies, British Literature, American Literature, Critical Thinking, Research Methodology and Teaching Methodology ( as we're trained to be English teachers in the future  ). To be honest, English has got on my last nerves due to the overload of its assignments  That's why I'm turning to Thai as a refreshing change. That's all about the advanced thing  . As for the "natural feel", I guess I unconsciously got it from British/ American movies, TV shows, books and even music   Some English speaking forums/ chat rooms used to be very beneficial to me. ความคิดเห็นที่ 12 ไม่ครับ เขาใช้ภาษาเวียดนาม (romanised spelling) แต่ก่อนใช้อักษรจีน แต่เมื่อตกเป็นเมืองขึ้นฝรั่งเศสหลายสิบปี ก็ไม่เอาอักษรจีนอีกแล้ว เช่นเดียวกับมาเลเซีย อินโดนีเซีย แต่ก่อนใช้อักษรอาหรับสำหรับคนชั้นสูงที่มีการศึกษา พอได้เอกราช ก็หันมาใช้ romanised bahasa คือภาษามาเลย์เขียนด้วยอักษรโรมันครับ จากคุณ : K.Senior เขียนเมื่อ : 7 มิ.ย. 53 01:21:56

Even though students didn't try hard, the average score was just a few points above the 2009 Thai's average, quite disappointing. ความคิดเห็นที่ 16 I doubt ONET is a more reliable measure than TOEFL. Just look at the exam for yourself. I'd say it's rubbish. It's easy to deny what's happening, find a nice excuse, and turn a blind eye on the matter. But the truth is Thailand's education system is underdeveloped. And the result pretty much reflects what's going on in this country. Most English teachers aren't even qualified to teach. I seriously doubt if they could get more than 80 in TOEFL, let alone the students. Though I agree that TOEFL and other standardized tests might not be the true measurement to one's proficiency, they still tell us something.
