By the first decade of the twentieth century, interest and work in the field of flight had reached a pitch. As highly publicized efforts by engineers and scientists to develop an airplane capable of carrying a person were underway in Europe and America, two brothers from Dayton,Ohio, were quietly, doggedly, and methodically teaching themselves everything there was to know about flying, and inventing all the rest as the need arose.
