It's the same word from the same origin; Sanskrit and Pali; 'सर' passing through Old Khmer with sound changing in Modern Khmer.
Today there is no the consonant cluster /sr/ in Siamese Phonology, so this word has to make suitable for Thai tongues. The first alternative pronunciation is pronounced as one syllable by elision of a liquid /r/. The second alternative pronunciation is pronounced as two syllable by intrusion of a vowel /a/.
