This study investigated the feasibility of IBD treatment using living Trichuris suis parasites. The parasites produce antigen, which triggers the body's immune system that suppresses IBD through a similar pathway used by helminths to regulate the hosts immune system. Live Trichuris suis ova were digested and maintained in canine intestine. To date, the outcome of the treatment has not yet been verified and would be the subject for further investigation.
