The most important day that not only Chinese in Mainland but also in every part of the world look forward to is New Year Day. Chinese New Year day are not involved in World New Year Day or Gregorian calendar instead it is reckoned by the lunar calendar which is based on lunar phase similar to Islamic Calendar. This is because Chinese give important to the moon. On Chinese New Year day, Chinese in Thailand we normally get at least 2 days off which are independent from work. Although Chinese New Year is not legal holiday, some institutes or companies, where are in associated with Chinese or the owner are Chinese, have at least 2 days off. Because we do believe that we should not work on New Year day otherwise we are going to work hard for whole year. Rather than work, we wear new red clothes, which are believed to be auspicious color, before go to senior relatives house to meet, eat, pray and the most special significant time for grandson is when thick red envelopes, which contain money, are in our hands. In that night at their own house, we prepare foods, fruits, and desserts to pay respect to sky and ground at the exact time that written in lunar calendar before set off firecracker. The loud sound of firecracker thought to chase away the mythical being call Nian (年) and to welcome the beginning of New Year. Lion dances shows are also available during Chinese New Year. Furthermore, firecracker and lion dance are widely used in every joyous occasion such as weddings, birthdays, opening of offices or new businesses as well as Chinese festivals and religious celebrations.
