When I graduated from high school and needed to pick a field of study I really unwittingly took things like finance and accounting for granted and chose engineering field because, at that time, my perception was synthesized from countless piece of memories of how my mother working as a financial controller; Finance for me is all about tedious work and things like investment also seem way too far for me as I have been raised up in quite conservative family so saving accounts seem to be the only option we choose. But during my first year in college, with my love in programming and full of eagerness, I encourage my friend to get ourselves an internship even we are just a group of freshmen. In the end we ended up at a securities company and worked as a part of an application development team. This is where I first self- study about investment and lots of financial terms; at the same time, the seed of passionate in this science was also planted within me.
My aspirations have not solely revolved around finance and programming however I had a chance to participate in programs to guide the high school students, with my own personal experience, who still felt uneasy of making up their mind about field of study that they are going to pursue as well as participated in voluntary camp to aid the rural area of Thailand such as building bridges and public toilets. These experiences have taught me perseverance, social responsibility attitude and effective communication skills which will play a great role in order to succeed graduate school and beyond.
Right after my graduation, I sought for the job that related in financial as much as possible due to a limitation to my degree, fortunately, I started my career as a financial analyst. At first, everything seems to be new to me and there are a lot of things for me to learn to catch up with the job but somehow the more I learn the more astounding I felt for this job. My major responsibility is to review all of the expenses incurred in each period and construct a forecast model for top management and also any of site investments or impacts will be study by me and my team. When I first join the team the allocation model of costing for each of our product was outdated since site grew in more model and production line through time and the spreadsheet using for this job is nowhere near user-friendly due to its massive data and formulas putting together. Thus, I improved the model of allocation to reflect the true cost of each product and create a new spreadsheet for better analysis and work efficiency.
By learning what I need for my job, I realized that without strong background and learning with this piece-by-piece method probably hard for making me become an expertise in this field, this is one of the major reasons for me for applying graduate school I also believe that with study in graduate school it will surely not only extends my knowledge but also enhance other skills that necessary in my career life.
With the foundation courses you provided for student who might not have strong background in finance it will surely help me construct the broad view of finance and with the flexibility of your courses to choose in quantitative track this will allow me to focus more in the specific subject.
Once I complete my graduate school, I plan to become an analyst in monetary institution in my country. Ideally, I would like to work for the National Bank or Stock Exchange of Thailand in which I can help extend the limitation of my countrys capital market.
