"..Unfortunately, my instructor gave an advice for the group to acquire the information from teachers only.." >> Well, the less said about this the better.
Let me give you my two cents.
1. How long have you been teaching translation course? >> Formally or informally? If formally, never. If informally, over a decade.
2. What are errors that you have seen in your students' EN->TH tranlation works? ie. wrong order, wrong meaning... Which one from your list does it occur the most frequently? >> Overtranslation, undertranslation, or even completely wrong meaning, I've seen them all in equal proportions.
3. What factors do you think are the causes of those errors? ie. cultural differences, does not know the English idioms... >> Lack of English proficiency leading to poor reading comprehension. If you cannot comprehend the source text, how can you transfer its meaning, nuances and intention correctly to the target text.
Nobody here is truly a formal teacher of translation. Some of us are full-time translators, meaning professionals. Most are part-timers and some like me are fully amateurs. However, I can assure you that the pooled experience here is truly awesome.
