To "get your goat" is an expression. It means to make you mad. A good friend might tell you: "Don't worry about what that person said. He was just trying to get your goat." But there are plenty of good reasons to get a goat -- and not just for milk or meat. The animals can help control weeds. They can be friendly with children and adults. And they can make money with their hair. Cashmere goats produce cashmere. Angora goats produce -- no, not angora. Angora fiber comes from rabbits. Angora goats produce mohair. Mohair is used to make clothing, carpets and other products. The goats came from the Anatolian plains. Their name comes from the Turkish city of Ankara. The Mohair Council of America says the first Angora goats arrived in the United States in eighteen forty-nine. Seven females and two males were imported. Today the United States is one of the world's leading producers of mohair. The other top sources are South Africa and Turkey. Ninety percent of the mohair from the United States comes from Texas. An adult Angora can produce as much as seven kilograms of hair each year. The value of the coat depends on the age, size and condition of the goat. As Angoras get older, their hair becomes thicker and less valuable. The goats need their mother's milk for the first three or four months. They reach full maturity at about two years. But even then they are smaller than most sheep and milk goats. Cashmere goats are usually larger than Angoras. Cashmere goats can grow big enough to be kept with sheep and cattle. The outer hair of the animal is called guard hair. Behind it is the valuable material on a cashmere goat. Some farmers just comb their cashmere goats to remove the hair. But if the goats do get a haircut, it often happens when they would naturally lose their winter coat, between December and March. Angora goats generally get their hair cut twice a year, in the spring and fall. Owners do it themselves or hire a professional shearer. An Angora without a coat can get cold. The Olympic flame was lit in Greece on May tenth. The ceremony marked the beginning of a long trip through Greece and Britain, which holds the Summer Olympics this year. Greece has been at the center of a political and economic struggle that also threatens other European economies. It remains unclear if Greece will continue using the euro, or if its eurozone partners can enact reforms needed to hold the currency group together. On the day the Olympic flame was lit, Greek Socialist leader Evangelos Venizelos began an attempt to form a new government. It marked the third attempt to form a government in the week after parliamentary elections. Mr. Venizelos' PASOK party finished third in the elections. First, the conservative New Democracy party attempted to form a government and failed. Then the leader of the leftist Syriza coalition tried and failed. He said the election results showed the Greek people had rejected deep budget cuts required by international creditors. Budget-cutting austerity measures have angered Greeks. The political situation in Greece raised the possibility of the need for an emergency coalition or even new elections. The political crisis also raised the possibility of punishment by Greece's eurozone creditors. They could deny future payments from the financial rescue plan that they agreed to in February. The agreement is worth about one hundred seventy billion dollars in loans and cancelled debt. The rescue is the second for Greece since its debt crisis began in two thousand nine, and bigger than the first bailout. On May tenth, euro-area governments released a five and a half billion dollar loan to Greece. But Greek officials were said to have been unhappy that over one billion dollars was withheld. The failed efforts to form a government raised concerns that reforms can work in Greece. The country is now in its fifth year of recession. German Chancellor Angela Merkel said borrowing as a way to increase growth would be a step backward. The leader of Europe's biggest economy told her country's parliament: "Growth through structural reform is important and necessary. Apple's new version of its desktop operating system for Mac computers is called Mac OS X Lion. Apple says this latest OS X upgrade has over two hundred new features. But one big difference is how the company will sell it -- only by download at its Mac App Store. The price is twenty-nine dollars and ninety-nine cents. Users without the current version, Snow Leopard, will have to pay an extra thirty dollars to download the new release. Last year, Apple had more than five hundred million dollars in sales of its desktop operating system. Experts say download-only software is getting more common. Dave Wolf is a vice president at Cynergy Systems in Washington. His company helps software designers to develop and market products. He says the computer that many people use most is their mobile phone. People who download apps to smartphones have come to expect quick and easy software updates. Now, Dave Wolf says phones are shaping expectations for other computers. Downloadable programs mean fewer trips to stores to buy software. But that can also mean fewer sales for stores that depend on physical products, including most video games. And not everyone has a high-speed Internet connection to make downloads quick and easy. But Dave Wolf says the cost savings are a big help to small businesses trying to reach a wide market. "I think it's a boon to small software companies and entrepreneurs who have incredible ideas and want to get them out to market." He says the Internet radio service Pandora, for example, can offer free music because it has no costs of selling discs in stores. Pandora began selling shares of stock to the public in June. Next to go may be software stored on individual computers. Many companies are moving to cloud computing. The idea is to save money by storing software on somebody else's servers in large data centers. This way people can easily access their music library or other applications from any device. This is not the case for users of Apple's iTunes. Now Apple thinks it has a solution with a cloud-computing service called iCloud. And Microsoft has developed Windows Azure. America's video game industry was the winner in a decision by the United States Supreme Court. In late June the justices rejected a law in California that banned the sale or rental of violent video games to people under eighteen. They said the two thousand five law violated the free speech guarantee in the First Amendment to the Constitution. The vote was seven to two.The court decided that video games are a protected form of creative expression like books, plays and movies. Paul McGreal, dean of the University of Dayton law school in Ohio, says California did not see gaming that way. "The state of California tried to argue that this was not speech, it was more of an activity because children interact and play with the video games, and so it's not traditional speech like a book or like a magazine." California lawmakers argued that violent games were especially harmful to children. But the court said they were no more harmful than the violence in other forms of media. Justice Antonin Scalia wrote the majority opinion. He pointed to the violence in fairy tales like "Snow White" and "Cinderella" and in cartoons. Professor McGreal says the court sees its job as only to decide what is and is not legally protected speech. "We don't want to get the Supreme Court into making fine distinctions about what is better than others, because that will lead us down a slippery slope. Once you start deciding that, what's to stop the government from saying that, for example, Grimm's fairy tales themselves are too violent, or that particular books should be banned?" In fact, from nineteen fifteen to nineteen fifty-two, the Supreme Court permitted censorship of movies for fear they could be "used for evil." Today the film and music industries have voluntary rating systems, and so does the video game industry. For example, extremely violent games are rated "M" for mature. These are meant for ages seventeen and older. Only five percent of the more than sixteen hundred games rated last year were rated M. Still, Abby Halloran, a manager at a Gamestop store in Maryland, says M-rated games like Call of Duty, Halo and Fallout are the most popular games in the store. The exhibit opened 50 years ago. RITA STACEY: "This was a very groundbreaking facility." Rita Stacey heads the Seven Seas exhibit at the Brookfield Zoo. RITA STACEY: "It was actually the first inland dolphinarium. At the time, it was the first one that was located inland and it was the first one to use artificial saltwater, that we now create our own man-made saltwater here." That development led to the creation of a permanent home for marine mammals far from the ocean. The Seven Seas exhibit is the oldest inland dolphin habitat in the United States. RITA STACEY: "This is actually our second building. Our first building was being operated for close to 25 years. And in that 25 years, we had estimated about eleven and a half million people had gone into that facility and saw the dolphins there." The Chicago Zoological Society operates the Brookfield Zoo. Stacey says the society has led efforts to increase understanding of sea creatures. RITA STACEY: "There is so much that we've learned in the last 50 years about caring for dolphins, about the inner workings of their society and their relationships with each other, as well as about anatomy and about how dolphins actually work." MELISSA ZABOJNIK: "You know, we can use the dolphins as ambassadors." Melissa Zabojnik is a keeper at the Seven Seas exhibit. MELISSA ZABOJNIK: "This is Mia. She's our youngest, she's four." She has been working with dolphins for 10 years. MELISSA ZABOJNIK: "The zoo's mission is to inspire conservation leadership, so that's something that we try to portray in our dolphin shows as well." The Chicago Zoological Society provides support to the Sarasota Dolphin Research Center in Florida. The center studied dolphins in the Gulf of Mexico after the huge oil spill in 2010. MELISSA ZABOJNIK: "Because we've gotten to know these animals so well in the past, it helps us in the future by determining if the oil spill has any effect on the future of them -- where the animals spend their time, if they migrate for any reason, if there's any difference of their health population in the future, year after year, because of the oil spill." The Brookfield Zoo now works with other American organizations that are also far from ocean coastlines. They are working to increase understanding of the world under the sea. They can become works of art in the hands of adults like Nathan Sawaya. NATHAN SAWAYA: I dont notice the time passing. I just, this is what I do and I enjoy it. So I can just work for hours without being interrupted. Legos are made of plastic. Each piece is called a brick. Bricks come in different colors and sizes. NATHAN SAWAYA: I think the most important thing is having a vision in my head before I start putting down that first brick. And then it is just a matter of putting the bricks together to make it look like the vision I have. Sawaya is one of a very few full-time Lego artists in the United States. He creates works of art from these simple building blocks. NATHAN SAWAYA: "Although I work probably every weekend and I work most nights, you know, I'm doing what I love so it doesn't feel like work." For several years, Sawaya worked as a lawyer. That left him little time for building Legos. But he found enough time to set up a personal website. NATHAN SAWAYA: "There was a day when my website, brickartist.com, it crashed because it had too many hits. So I realized, all right, it is time to make a change because there was a viable market out there to be an artist." Sawaya says he has no regrets about his new career. NATHAN SAWAYA: "The worst day as an artist is still better than the best day as a lawyer. So I don't regret my decision." His art works have found their way into American museums. This show was held at the Flinn Gallery in Greenwich, Connecticut. NATHAN SAWAYA: When I do the two-dimensional portraits, it is a lot like painting because I'm using the Lego bricks as the paint essentially. Sawaya uses Legos like a traditional artist uses bronze, clay or paint. BOY: "The pencil one." GRANDMOTHER: "Oh, the pencil one! It looks like a man carrying a very big pencil. See that? Would you like to make something like this?" BOY: "Yes, but look at that!" GRANDMOTHER: "I know, that's really neat." Adults see Lego art differently than children. WILMA NACINOVICH: "The artist has said that he only used rectangle pieces. And yet he manages to get this roundness." The head of the Flinn Gallery, Vivian Chen, has high praise for Sawayas creations. VIVIAN CHEN: "It is a person swimming in deep water. The legs are kicking and the arms are doing the freestyle motion. But what drew people to this is that you could feel the flow of the water. You could feel the action of the arms." Some of his larger pieces sell for tens of thousands of dollars. But he will not sell this one -- an artist struggling to escape from the body of a lawyer. NATHAN SAWAYA: "It is still very personal. I put it out there as part of the museum exhibit so it is touring and people can go and enjoy it. But I'm not ready to have it going to someones house, you know, someones office and never see it again."
