I guess I should quit reading all these grammar talk. Grammar really messes up my language abilities.
I'm dead serious.
You know what, when the OP underlined "persons" I was like, WTF? I've been using "persons" all my life and I KNOW that it's not wrong. I know when to use it in plural form, but don't ask about the grammar itself. I just know it by instinct. But the OP's mentioning of it had me doubting myself.
Thanks to uncle Fortunteller to help clarify the doubt in myself.
And as for the original problem, I was, like, WTF, too! Never heard of that kind of rule before. I tried watching the clip and I was getting confused myself.
I THINK WE THAIS SHOULD QUIT LEARNING GRAMMAR BY JUST MEMORIZING THE EXACT RULES, BUT SHOULD LEARN THE LANGUAGE FLOW AND PATTERNS INSTEAD.
Understand the basic rules and develop from there. A lot of native speakers, especially the younger generation, screw up worse than we Thais do.
When I took French course in school we had to learn grammar too. During the exams when I wasn't sure if what I wrote was right, I'd "read" it and see if the FLOW was right. It it sounded right, it was right. And in my school we really had to write sheets after sheets of answer paper. No A-B-C's.
Of course, unless you're a linguist, or English Language is your major in college, then please go ahead with grammar.
But, please, for my neighbor's cat sake, don't over preach it.
