What makes Japan tick? I have always been interested in this subject. I would like to make learning how Japan re-developed after World War 2 the main purpose of my studying in Japan.
In my opinion, the three main factors contributing to the success of Japan were its human resources, foreign aids, and effective developmental plans.
The high quality of human resources was an important factor that made Japan successful. Japanese is proud and nationalistic; I think that was what brought the nation together. Besides, Japanese are sedulous, perhaps due to its limited natural resources and frequent disasters such as earthquakes and storms, which conditioned them to be hard working.
The various foreign aids received after World War 2 helped Japan establishing basic utilities and laying a good foundation for future development. After being able to stand on its own, Japan continued to develop especially in the field of technology. Finally, Japan has become one of the world leaders in this field.
The last factor that got Japan through the crisis was effective developmental plans, clear and specific, that made the entire country going in the same direction. (For example, with careful examination of the strengths and weaknesses of other countries and of itself, the Japanese automobile industry produced cheaper cars to sell since they knew that the cars they made were not as strong as European cars.)
I dont know whether my understanding of Japan is correct, I wish to learn more and I hope to be able to do that during the period of my studying in Japan.
