Carman Lee is one of the hottest female actresses in Hong Kong and Asia. She has starred in 12 major Hong Kong productions, showing unique versatility in different roles. In her rapid rise, Carman Lee has succeeded in performing in almost all major movie genres, including Action-Adventure, Sci-Fi, Comedy and Romance.
In 1990, Carman Lee began her movie career with a small role in Killer's Romance. Just two years later she would star alongside Jacky Cheung and Leon Lai in the Sci-Fi Thriller "The Wicked City". The opportunity to work with Jacky and Leon in this movie brought high profile to the young actress. In a few short years, Carman Lee would establish herself as one of the pre-eminent female actresses in the Hong Kong movie industry.
In early 1994, Carman appeared in "The Final Option". Despite a lack of support from local police authorities, the low budget film accurately revealed the inner workings of the elite HK Police SDU Programme through the eyes of a rookie squad in training. The highly acclaimed movie, directed and written by Gordon Chan, was nominated for five Hong Kong Film Awards, including "Best Picture".
Carman continued to show her unique versatility and acting strengths in four additional movies released in 1994; "Burning Paradise", "The Little Drunken Masters", "Awakening" and "Victory". "The Little Drunken Masters", a Martial Arts movie, allowed Carman to display her talents in a lead role. Her performance as the movie's heroine won her critical acclaim. "Victory" presented a new role for Carman as a member of a College Volleyball team that overcomes great odds to win the HK Championship.
In 1995, Carman turned her attention to different endeavors. "Loving You", Carman's only Silver Screen release of the year, thrust the actress into the challenging role of a neglected wife struggling to hold her marriage together. In the same year, Carman made a move to the small screen in the popular series "The Return of the Condor Heroes". An adaptation of the popular novel, 1983 TV series and 1991 movie, "The Return of the Condor Heroes" is a powerful drama that explores the teacher/student relationship in an historical setting.
In 1996, Carman Lee starred in "Somebody Up There Likes You" with megastar Aaron Kwok. The movie called upon Carman's growing strength in the romantic/tragedy genre. Her gut-wrenching, tear-jerking performance as a woman torn between love for her brother and another man revealed Carman's intense commitment to bringing her characters to life. Undoubtedly, the movie proved that Carman was indeed deserving of her rapidly growing popularity.?
Carman Lee, however, did not take a break. Just a month later "Forbidden City Cop" was released. From romantic/tragedy straight into comedy, Carman did not miss a beat. Starring alongside legendary comedian Stephen Chow, she proved that her abilities were not limited to serious roles. Her comic timing in the role of a male was outstanding! "Forbidden City Cop" would finish the year as the fourth most popular film in Hong Kong, closely behind International blockbusters "First Strike", "Independence Day", and "Mission: Impossible".? In a 1996 interview with Radio-Television Hong Kong, Carman discussed her life and the possibilities for the future. In reference to a question regarding a duet she performed with Andy Lau in 1995, she cautiously stated an interest in pursuing more singing opportunities but reminded her fans that she does not want to head into anything blindly.
Carman continued to work on the movies in 1996, starring in "Lover's Tears" and "War of the Under World
