Khun S.C.P., these are quite useful guidelines.
Articles
The words the, a, and an are articles. Known as the definite article, the identifies a specific item or group of items. It can modify a singular or plural noun.
The boy left for town before the girls came home.
Known as indefinite articles, a and an refer to one out of a class of items but do not specify which one. Indefinite articles can modify only a singular noun.
A boy will often leave before a girl. But: Boys will often leave before girls.
A is used before a noun that begins with a consonant sound; an is used before a noun that begins with a vowel sound. (See A vs. An.)
Articles in a Series In a series, an article should be repeated before all nouns if each identifies a separate item. If the nouns describe a single thing or refer to the same item or person, insert an article before only the first.
They arrived in the car and the truck. They arrived in the horse and buggy. The firm needs a paralegal and a typist. [two positions] The firm needs a paralegal and typist. [one position]
However, you should always include an indefinite article before each item in a series if both a and an are required.
Incorrect: The firm needs an office manager and typist. Correct: The firm needs an office manager and a typist.
Omission of Articles In formal writing, do not omit an article from the beginning of a sentence in imitation of newspaper headline style.
Incorrect: Cause of his anxiety was unknown. Correct: The cause of his anxiety was unknown.
You may, however, leave articles out of instructions if you do so consistently.
