Your opinion on 'Vanich's war against Matichon'

K.Vanich sues matichon for reputation damage requested for 30 milion Baht following Matichon accused him of back stapping when Grammy tried to take over Matichon.
I think this is very interesting. You can see it as:
- Individual writer Vs Mega Media or
- Media harrasment to writer or
- Proxy war's between Grammy and Matichon
Sorry that I have to type in English (my Thai typing is poor) but I would like to hear the public voice and can follow the comments in Thai.

Thailand is following a bad trend in the US, becoming a victim of lawyer's suing mentality. The courts are presently overwhelmed with so many more serious cases to consider. Let's not add one more frivolious litigation. I think he is crazy. I don't even know his name as having been damaged in any way or I forgot already even though I am in the media business. How can the public remember his name? They just don't care. Do you really think he suffers damage to his reputation when the public don't even know his name? I think he thinks himself as being very important when in fact none cares.

I read Vanich column and book for almost 30 years since his first book about taking TOEFL exam in AUA. Didn't aware that he is so 'Un-known".
By the way, I think this is a bit of personal's Proxy war between Vanich and Nai Chang (Matichon biggg boss).
As I said earlier, any comments are most welcome.

คุณวาณิชมีสิทธิที่จะป้องกันชื่อเสียงตนเอง และผมคิดว่า มันคงจะดูจริงใจ ถ้าแกได้ออกมาชี้แจงแก้ข้อกล่าวหาในทันที เพราะคุณวาณิชเองก็มีเพื่อนที่เป็นสื่อออกมากมาย ตอนแรกๆที่เป็นข่าวคราวกันใหญ่โต ผมก็รอฟังความสองด้านอยู่นะครับ แต่ปรากฏว่า แทบไม่ได้เห็นคุณวาณิชในหน้าหนังสือพิมพ์เลย ยังนึกหลงชมว่า แกคงยอมกลืนเลือดเพื่อเห็นแก่มิตรภาพ ไม่นึกเลยว่า จะทำ surprise งานนี้มีแต่เจ๊งกับเจ๊งครับ

His time was in the past. There are always new names and Thai people have short memory. People are more fascinated about อากู๋ vs ช้าง and Thaksin who was believed to be behind the saga. Vanich was only a bit player and the public don't know or care much about this writer. He is hardly news for the past 10 years.

To be honest, I'm really scared about the idea of Khun K.Senior. Whether a person is well known, he should have a right to protect himself from any kinds of insultings. This metality reflects the fact that we've spaces for those who are nobles, well-known, young, etc., whereas those who are no ones in the society tend to be ignored.

So do you believe in frivolious litigation? Do you want Thailand to be like the US disease. Is there anywhere that says I advocate suing only for those well-known people? I just don't believe in suing for libel at all for anyone. Let's talk it out among the disputed parties. Suing in the court of law should be the last resort and when it is very serious. Even in the US, big corporations are now realising only the lawyers benefit from spurious litigations and are now settling the matter out of court, en masse. Even the sue-crazy Microsoft now agrees to settle the suit with Google.
We should know better than to copy the US disease. Don't let the false pride blind anyone. Self-imagined damage to one's reputation is often blown out of proportion. Even the Lord Buddha himself has not escaped any criticism. Do you imagine anyone as great than the Lord Buddha himself that he deems it necessary to protect one's fleeting reputation? Very soon we all die as life is short. Better use the remaining time to do good for your family, neighbours and country than putting effort on this frivolious litigation. If anyone deems that any insult must land the opponent in court, we will have more than 1000 cases a day and the courts will be bankrupted!

I agree that both parties should talk it over and try to solve it amongst themselves. But I read from newspaper that Vanich (and his wife) wanted to talk to K.Chang but they were ignored. He must have felt so insulted, unfairy treating from an old friend and have no place to voice his opinion.
I -in certain aspect- agree with you that litigation is not always the right thing to do.
If it were you what would you do in this situation.

I would follow the Lord Buddha's conduct. When he was accused of making a woman pregnant, he said only he and the woman knew the truth. There was no need for any further discussion. Time passed. The Lord Buddha was right. Finally the woman confessed that she was hired to damage his reputation.
If I were him, I just let time be the healer. If they are really friends, there will be time enough to amend the strained relation. If they are to part company forever, let's it be. Life goes on. Do your best for the short time you are left on earth. No need to bear grudge or think of the past deeds. One may find comfort to the Lord Buddha's teaching that nothing is permanent. Everything in this world is fleeting. Why dwell so much on the past event? Do our best today.
I think, Khun Vanich is mature enough to think it through, not falling victim to legal heads who always prefer to sue. Let him heed His Majesty the King's Birthday advice of reconciliation. His Majesty does not agree of always suing this and that. Go and read his message. There is a lot of wisdom there.
