Drug Profile: Finasteride (Proscar)
Use: Treatement and control of benign prostatic hyperplasia and prevention of urologic events to reduce the risk of acute urinary retention and surgery incl transurethral resection of the prostate and prostatectomy
Precaution: Large residual urine volume, severely dimished urinary flow; abnormal serum PSA levels
Side effect: Erectile dysfunction; decreased libido; ejaculation disorder; hypersensitivity reactions, e.g. rash, pruritus, urticaria, swelling of lips, face; testicular pain.
