    ---- Democracy ---

The United States condems the violance in Thailand, they do not take one side or the other--but they hope that a resolution of the problems in Thailand can be resolved peacefully.  Violence is the result of one or both sides being unfair and or not wanting to meet and reach a resolution.

The US will always support a democratic government---that is elected fairly and is representive of the People.  A Military Government is not an acceptable solution and should be quickly dissolved to allow for free and unbiased elections.  History has always shown that when the military controls the government, then the rights of the people suffer and democracy can not survive----and it is soon to evolve into a dictatorship.

If the Coup Leadership is sincere for what is best for the Thai People they will quickly establish Free and impartial elections to allow the people to have their voice in the future of Thailand.   The longer that this is delayed the more disruptive and destructive it will be to the future of Thailand.  Foreign Tourists do not want to come to a country when the Military is on every corner with loanded guns and riots can occur from the unfair opression of the Thai People.  The longer the  Coup continues to use the force of the military to force the Thai People to become their slaves the more likely there will be a civil war erupt within and this will ultimately destroy the economy and world respect for Thailand.

The Thai people need to be heard---but if greedy men in power persist they will only hurt the common man and destroy the years of accomplishments that the Thai People have made.  A sound Democracy will be respected by world powers and by the United States.  No one wants to trade or be associated with a country run by gangsters and power hungry military leaders.

The military should work for the people---not opress the people.   Look how the US responded to threats with lawlessness of the pirates off the coast of Africa----if Thailand continues on the path it is on, they too may be percieved as a lawless country, not to be trusted and to be avoided or destroyed as necessary.  Thailand has a long and rich history----and in the interest of the people of Thailand the return to a sound Democracy should be of the first priority.
